ABOUT US

Under The Milky Way is about 2.5 miles outside of Combe Martin, a quirky fun seaside village on the amazing North Devon Heritage Coast. We are in a quiet rural location surrounded by fields and woods and most of the time the loudest sound is birdsong, though we do have to cut the grass with our small tractor from time to time.

We try to keep our impact on our land and environment to a minimum, all guests are encouraged to recycle as much as possible and we provide bins for glass, plastics, paper etc. Most of the logs we burn in our fires are from our own woods and we rarely fell a tree as there is usually enough blown over and from dead fall. Lighting in our tents is mainly solar powered though we do use candles as well, and all light bulbs used in the showers/loos are low energy.

We have plenty of space around the tents for the impromptu games of cricket, football and just running about, that often take place involving children and parents alike.

It is possible to walk into the village from here, it’s a steep climb, but a car is really essential if you wish to fully explore the area and all the varied experiences on offer.

There is a good bus service from Combe Martin village that links all the main towns and villages so it is possible to leave the car behind at times, especially if you aim to visit some of the great pubs or restaurants in the area.

Combe Martin has its own beach and at low tide there are fantastic rocks to scramble on with loads of rock pools to explore. There is also a good range of shops offering everything from groceries to beachwear and there is also a chemist and post office, several pubs, most of which offer food and various cafes, fish and chip shops and other eateries.

Under the Milky Way is a peaceful haven ideally situated to explore the whole area. The wide open spaces of Exmoor are a few minutes away and the fantastic surf beaches of Woolacombe and Croyde are only a fifteen minute drive away. Have a look at our Activities page for an idea of what goes on in this beautiful part of the world.
